IMS unveiled a revamped road course and released details on the IndyCar road course race in May. The race will run on 10 May, with practice for the Indy 500 starting the next day. Instead of the traditional Indianapolis (rolling) start, this race will be run from a standing start, which should cause chaos/excitement in turn 1. For comparison, here's the most recent MotoGP layout:

"If we change it just a little each year, we can have it back to a circle in a few years and people won't notice". Jeez, I hate Grand Am/NASCAR. You took a perfectly good series, ALMS, and screwed it up. Panoz, you are just as much to blame for selling out.

I know this might not count, but I hate driving this track in Forza 4. It's essentially the opposite direction of the bottom pic. It has the most harebrained and strange turn in points and apexes. The decreasing radius 90 degree at turn 16 is a nightmare. And that horrible mess that includes 15 through 11 is dreadful. Come to think of it, the only turns that I don't hate on the track are turns 9, 8, and 5. Everything else sucks.

Nice change...suck race date. Later in the year is better...say, before nascar? Yeah...

Maybe someone with a large presence in automotive media could say something to that extent?

They should let them go all the way on the oval onto turn 1, like F1 the first year. See who can handle high speed plus downforce for the infield.

The trouble with doing that is that it removes a passing zone. Since they'll be running in high downforce configuration, it'll be difficult to follow closely through a high speed turn.

The only thing any good in ALMS at this point was LMPC and ALMS GT. USCC is going to retain both of those classes in tact. LMP2 was 4 or 5 entries and LMP1 was 1 or 2. The merger should make for an interesting prototype battle and better numbers and more spectators. It'll also allow ALMS GT to race at the 24 hours of Daytona and some of the Grand-Am to race at Sebring and Petit.
I think the new series should be great and solves a lot of problems the old one had.

Having ridden at the MotoGP race in 2009 in the 250cc class, I have seen a few laps of the current config. I think it seems like they're taking a few of the interesting sections out (& there aren't many of those!). Turn 11 was a cool long corner where they run great shots with the boom camera. They're taking alot of the technical sides of the track out. It looks a little bit different in reverse however so it may flow a bit better on to the back straight & make a better braking zone after it.
The only way to really make it worthwhile is to add some sort of elevation. Proper road courses require it.

LMPC is garbage. You have prototype cars that are spec and almost slower than the GT cars. The only thing GTC and LMPC were good for in ALMS was crashing into top contending GT cars.
